Marijuana Legalization Initiatives Circulating

Three initiatives are underway in California to legalize recreational marijuana by 2014.

The most recent measure was cleared for signature gathering last week, and it’s called “The Marijuana Control Legalization and Revenue Act.”

This measure would put a 10 percent tax on recreational marijuana and supporters of it say it’s better than anything Colorado or Washington has.

”It actually takes the unique differences that we need here in the state of California,” says Lenette Davies with Crusaders for Patient Rights.”It is going to cause a taxation for those that are using recreation, but it’s going to be capped at 10 percent instead of the 25 percent.”

Davies also says the measure has the best chance to make it to the November ballot, out of all three initiatives.
