Storm cleanup in Carmel

The damage is all over the city of Carmel following the heavy winds from the latest storm. Clean-up crews will continue working Friday and Saturday to clear tree damage around the city.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Police Department logged 162 storm related incidents. The city says several locations were cleared Thursday night, but still have more clean-up today.

“I’ve never seen this much damage in the city as far as trees go,” Carmel-by-the-Sea resident Jacquelyn Woodward.

There have been city-wide power outages too. As of Thursday 2,378 homes in Carmel were without power. As of 11:00 a.m. this morning that number dropped to just 530.

Carpenter Street took the brunt of the storm. Friday crews spent all day clearing the road and worked on getting the power lines functional.

Dan Chaika lives on Carpenter Street and watched Wednesday afternoon as a large tree fell across his front yard.

“I was looking right out that window, and I see the whole thing fall down,” Carmel-by-the-Sea resident Dan Chaika said.

As of 5:30 p.m. PG&E said the power outages were isolated to just Carpenter Street. They expect the power to be back on by about 8:00 p.m.
