CHP helicopter helps locate motorcyclist after high-speed chase in Marina

The California Highway Patrol Coastal Division Air Operations released new video showing how they helped locate a suspect following a high speed chase in Marina.

The high speed chase happened on Jan. 5

According to CHP, a motorcyclist led officers on a pursuit before ditching his bike and running into a brush area near the Marina Airport. That’s when CHP air operations used infrared spectrum cameras to help search for the suspect.

“Since visible light doesn’t affect the thermal world, the IR camera can see equally well in highly lit and totally dark environments,” said CHP.

The officers were fairly certain that the man was hiding in the area but couldn’t find him in the dark terrain.

“It’s a bit like finding a needle in a haystack,” CHP said.

Within a couple of minutes of the video you can see the flight officer was able to guide the ground units to the suspect where he was arrested.
