34th annual All-star Football Game declares a winner

Some of the Central Coast’s best high school football players gathered for the 34th annual All-Star Football Game.

The game brings together players from Santa Cruz, San Benito, south Santa Clara and Monterey Counties.

Friday’s two charities that benefited got donations, the one represented by the winning team got a bonus.

Those charities are Monterey County Special Olympics and Valley Churches United, each chosen by the coaches.

The team playing for Valley Churches United won 35-0.

Gonzales High School Coach Art Berlanga said he played this game when he was a high school school football player.

“You get to see these kids how they interact, you get to see the competitors amongst the competitors, the leaders amongst leaders and it’s really great to see,” Berlanga said.

Last year’s game ended in a 15-15 tie, both of the charities each got a bonus.
