Storm forces closure of Big Basin State Park

State Park officials have closed Big Basin Redwoods State Park due to concerns over the wet Pacific storm that arrived Tuesday.

The park closed Tuesday at noon, and is scheduled to reopen Thursday morning, Jan. 10. Additional updates will be posted at www.parks.ca.gov/bigbasin.

Prior to Tuesday’s closure, several trails, including Timm’s Creek and Skyline to Sea, had already been closed due to storm damage.

The State Parks website warns that trail conditions can change rapidly. Hikers should expect to find trails blocked by downed trees. Crossing streams can also be dangerous.

It suggests you turn back whenever you’re unsure about your ability to get around, over, or under an obstacle.
