Salinas man sentenced after sexual assault

The Monterey County District Attorney’s office announced that 31 -year old Salvador Zacharias was sentenced to 8 years Tuesday for forcible sexual assault including forcible oral copulation and false imprisonment by violence.

The DA’s office says Zacharias had known the victim, Jane Doe, for more than a decade.

On March 26, 2018, he went over to Doe’s house and became aggressive trying to kiss her. After Doe rejected Zacharias’ advances, he forcibly removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her. The DA’s office says he also kept her from leaving for several minutes.

Zacharias later admitted to police that he was on drugs and admitted to having, only consensual relations with Doe.

At Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Mark E. Hood ordered Zacharias to have no contact with Jane
Doe for ten years, the maximum term provided by law.
