CHP investigates early morning fatal crash in Gilroy

The California Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning crash that left one man dead in Gilroy.

The accident happened on Highway 101 around 12:40 a.m. Monday.

According to CHP, the driver, a 27-year-old Morgan Hill resident was traveling northbound in a 2007 Nissan Titan, north of Monterey Road when he lost control and crashed into a wood and metal guard rail.

“The collision with the guard rail caused the Nissan to overturn and come to a rest on its right side, pinning the driver within the vehicle,” said officer Christopher Miceli.

Firefighters extricated the man from the Nissan but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in this collision.
