Seaside to choose how to fill Kayla Jones’ Council seat
In a special Council meeting Wednesday night, the City of Seaside is deciding how to move forward after the resignation of Councilmember Kayla Jones.
According to the documents in the meeting’s agenda, they are going over two options – appoint someone to fill the seat for the remainder of Jones’ term, or, hold a special election.
The report says an election would cost between $75,000 and $200,000, and the whole process would take between four and six months. If the City chooses the appointment route, people would be able to submit letters of interest, and make their pitch to the council, before the council votes on the new member.
Jones submitted her letter of resignation back in November after an unsuccessful run for Seaside Mayor, and an investigation into her travel spending as a member of the city council.
