Salinas pregnant woman shot in buttocks

Salinas police say a three-months pregnant woman was shot in her buttocks at around 1:43 a.m. Wednesday morning in the area of Sharon Drive and Fairview Avenue.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation that caught three shots fired. They did not locate any victims at first, but about 15 minutes later a female victim arrived at Natividad Medical Center with a gunshot wound.

Police say the injuries are not life threatening and the victim will recover. They say the victim and another man were sitting in a car when another vehicle drove by and “for no apparent reason” shot at the victim’s vehicle multiple times.

Police are treating this as an attempted murder.
