Salinas man gets 40 years in prison for molesting children

UPDATE: 10/10/2018 4:00 p.m. A Salinas man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for molesting his girlfriends kids.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, 38-year-old Jose Lucas Rivas sexually abused two sisters over a two year period.

Salinas police placed a bulletin on Facebook seeking the whereabouts of Rivas, the mother of two boys came forward to police and said Rivas touched her sons when he babysat them years prior.

On Aug. 14, 2018, Rivas pleaded no contest to two counts of sexual penetration upon a child and two counts of lewd act with a child.

At the sentencing, Judge Butler said she found all four victims to be very credible and courageous. Rivas was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and pay restitution to the State Victim’s Compensation Board for the cost of counseling services for the victims.
