Watsonville attempted murder suspect arrested in multi agency operation

A multi-agency operation led to the arrest of a man wanted for attempted murder in Watsonville.

Officers from the Watsonville Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office arrested 29-year-old Omar Contreras at a home in Las Lomas, Tuesday morning.

Contreras was wanted for stabbing a 23-year-old man in the chest at a restaurant on the 100 block of Main Street.

According to Watsonville PD, the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The victim was taken to an out-of-county trauma center for treatment and has since been released from the hospital.

Surveillance video and witnesses helped officers identify Contreras as the suspect.

Contreras was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail with a $375,000 bail.
