City of Hollister looks to redesign McCarthy Street Park

Hollister city council members approved the design and specifications for McCarthy Street Park this week and hope to have a totally different version of the park up and running by next Memorial Day.

The park currently stands without grass and only a playground and basketball court on its grounds.

Hollister city leaders have looked to revitalize the park for years and now have a project worth about $3.5 million to do so.

McCarthy Street Park is located at Alvarado and McCarthy Street and extends to about 1.5 acres.

The city initially had grass installed but issues with the irrigation system at the park forced the city to remove the grass.

Efforts had been made previously to repair the irrigation system and add grass, however once the money became available to do so a few years ago–the drought took place and delayed any such plans.

By Memorial Day the city plans on having a number of new features including a splash pad, handball court, a rock climbing wall and–of course–the addition of grass.
