Trailer released for Transformer spin-off filmed in Santa Cruz

We’re excited to announce the official trailer for a movie filmed in Santa Cruz was released Wednesday (6/6).

“BumbleBee,” a spin-off of “Transformers” was shot at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the Municipal Wharf back in September. The beach side amusement park’s name was changed to “Brighton Falls Boardwalk” in the Paramount Pictures film.

The movie starring Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena hits theaters this Christmas.

And this isn’t the first time the Santa Cruz Boardwalk has played a role. “Well we love it when the boardwalk gets featured in films. As you know, “The Lost Boys” was filmed here 31 years ago. We’ve had other films like “Killer Clowns from Outer Space” and “Sudden Impact.”” – Sondra Woods, Boardwalk’s Advertising Director

The crew filmed for 3 days last September bringing in over half a million dollars to local hotels. It also did its part supporting the Santa Cruz economy. The film employed more than 100 local crew members and about 500 extras… all good things for the city. Film commissioner, Christina Glynn says, “You know those opportunities are few and far between. But when we do get them it’s just another way for us to promote the destination and to in this case show off Santa Cruz County to a worldwide audience.”
