Aromas residents displaced after New Year’s Eve house fire

Aromas residents had to evacuate their home after it caught fire on New Year’s Eve.

At about 7:25 p.m., Aromas Tri-County Fire Protection District responded to a call for a structure fire on Ballantree Lane, near Rock Springs Road.

Firefighters found the two-story single family residence with smoke and flames visible from the 2nd story. The fire was most active in the attic. All occupants were already outside when firefighters arrived. The residents escaped with no injuries.

CAL FIRE says the fire was contained at approximately 8:30 p.m. to much of the 2nd floor. No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The residents will be staying with relatives.

North Monterey County FPD, CAL FIRE, Pajaro Valley Fire Prevention District, and San Juan Bautista Fire Department all assisted in Sunday’s efforts.
