Suspect crashes during Greenfield Police chase

A Greenfield man on the run after a domestic violence call was made crashed his car in South Monterey County.

According to Greenfield Police, officers responded to the 1100 block of Paloma Drive in Greenfield around 10:45 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived the suspect, 31-year-old Edgardo Iraheta Ayala had already left.

Officers said a few minutes later they spotted a car matching the description at a nearby gas station. When officers went to approach Ayala he sped off. The chase went out of city limits where the driver lost control and crashed. Ayala exited the car and ran but was caught by police.

Ayala was taken to the Monterey County Jail and charged with spousal battery, damage to cellphone (when the victim was dialing 911) violation of domestic violence restraining order, and violation of probation.
