Man leads Salinas Police on chase, causes vehicle collision

One man is behind bars after leading Salinas Police on a chase, and causing an accident during the incident.

Salinas Police Officers saw a vehicle cut off a semi-truck near the intersection of Market Street and Salinas Street Tuesday evening.

The driver, 27-year-old Kailas Dahl sped away accelerating his vehicle through the intersection after observing a police car in the same area.

Officers tried to stop Dahl but he instead tried to evade officers leading them on a short vehicle pursuit near the Police Department on Lincoln Avenue and towards West Alisal Street.

Dahl continued to flee on South Main Street and turned eastbound on Winham Street where he failed to stop for a stop sign, causing a vehicle collision. The collision disabled both vehicles and Dahl fled on foot jumping over fences into backyards of nearby homes.

Dahl was quickly captured a short distance away by responding officers.

Officers later determined Dahl had a prohibited loaded firearm inside of his vehicle and was also wanted for violating of his parole.

Dahl was booked into Monterey County Jail for a variety of felony charges.
