Salinas man struck and killed by diesel truck on Highway 101

A Salinas man was struck and killed by a diesel truck on Highway 101 over the weekend.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 44-year-old Salinas man was standing in the middle of the highway north of 156 when a 2011 Peterbilt was merging on the highway and hit him. The accident occurred on Saturday, around 3:12 a.m.

The driver of the diesel truck was 66-year-old David E. Fetzer of Napa.

CHP said the victim sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is on-going. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs was a factor.
