Animal shelter recovers nearly 100 feral cats in Boulder Creek

A colony of 100 feral cats will soon need homes, after being removed from a rural property in Boulder Creek.

Animal control officers with the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter said what started as a small number, multiplied when a resident began feeding cats without proper spay/neuter care.

Officials are in the process of removing the cats and getting them veterinary care, including being spayed and neutered.

The shelter is now looking for caring homes to place the cats in, as their policy is to never turn away an animal for any reason.

Through a partnership with a local nonprofit, Heading Home Animal Rescue (HHAR), SCCAS is seeking to place these cats with guardians who will care for them.

Officials with the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter said they are heavily populated this time of year. Following large-scale rescues such as this, SCCAS resources can be stretched thin and donations can help deal with unexpected circumstances and expenses.
