Gilroy man dead after shootout with Northern California deputies

A Gilroy man is dead after a shootout with two Yuba County Sheriff Deputies in Northern California.

The Yuba County Sheriff Investigators identified the suspect in the shooting as 33-year-old Mark Anthony Sanchez.

The shooting took place near communities of Oregon House and Dobbins– about 55 miles north of Sacramento. Two Yuba County Deputies were shot and seriously injured.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred Tuesday morning in the 9000 block of Marysville Road. Deputies responded to a call of a disturbance over marijuana plants. Sanchez had fled the scene by the time deputies arrived.

A short time later, a second deputy was able to spot the suspect and Sanchez began running towards a house up the hill.

The two deputies entered the home where they believed Sanchez was hiding and that’s when the shootout began.

The SWAT team arrived and found Sanchez dead around 2 p.m. inside the home.

Authorities believe Sanchez was living and working as a caretaker at a marijuana garden located next to the residence where the shooting occurred.

Sanchez was a previously convicted felon that had served time in California State Prison for multiple violent felonies including carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as burglary and possession of stolen property.

Sanchez also had two active warrants out of Gilroy for robbery and disturbing the peace.

The two Yuba County Deputies were listed in fair condition and continue to recover from surgery at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
