SALINAS: Victims of Highway 101 double fatal identified

UPDATE 8/2/2017 1:33 p.m. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two crash victims in Tuesdays fatal accident on Spence Road in Salinas.

The two people who died on scene were 55-year-old Julian Nuñez and 41-year-old Natividad Onofre.

Two people are dead after a driver attempted to make a turn and collided with a Toyota on Highway 101 in Salinas.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a call for the car crash came in around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The driver of a gray Nissan attempted to make a left turn on Spence Road. The driver of the Toyota didn’t have time to react and collided with the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan is a Soledad man believed to be in his 50’s. He is ok but his two passengers died on scene.

The female driver of the Toyota was taken to Natividad Medical Center.

The vehicles involved were moved to the right shoulder. Traffic is slow moving. All occupants were wearing seatbelts, and CHP doesn’t believe drugs or alcohol played a factor.
