More than a dozen stolen bikes and drugs recovered in Davenport

Numerous stolen bikes and drugs were recovered in the Davenport area this week.

On Tuesday, The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from an observant citizen who noticed a man unloading more than a dozen bikes from a U-Haul truck. The man didn’t know if the bikes were stolen, but he was concerned and contacted the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived and spoke with Douglas Cheesman as he was placing the bikes in his home. The Deputy recognized one of the bikes as being stolen.

In all, 17 bikes were recovered as well as numerous narcotics and cash. The Sheriff’s Office has only been able to contact five of the bike owners.

Cheesman was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office said it’s working to find the owners of the remaining bikes. If you recognize any of the bikes please contact the Sheriff’s Dispatch at 471-1121 and reference case 17-06389.
