“Shot Spotter” activated in Salinas, police investigate incident

Police are investigating a shooting in Salinas after “Shot Spotter” was activated Thursday night.

The shots were detected just before 8 p.m. on the 700 block of Josephine Street.

When police arrived they found a car outside of a home with bullet holes and casings nearby.

A man inside the home told police he was sitting in his car when a tan Honda with four passengers pulled up and one of the occupants fired three rounds toward his vehicle.

The victim was armed with a legally possessed firearm and fired back in self defense, according to police.

Minutes later officers were informed that two people were seeking treatment for gun shot wounds at Natividad Medical Center.

Police made contact with the two individuals but they would not cooperate with officers.

Salinas police believe the injured people were in the tan Honda during the shooting but the victim was unable to identify them.

Their injuries are non-life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing.
