Santa Cruz opposes Trump’s request to review locations for offshore oil drilling

Today the City of Santa Cruz let it be known that they oppose President Donald Trump’s request to review the Designation of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and other California National Marine Sanctuaries.

On April 28th, President Trump signed The America First Offshore Energy Executive Order, directing a review of the locations available for offshore oil and gas exploration and regulations governing offshore oil and gas exploration in American waters.

The Order directs the Secretary of Commerce to review all National Marine Sanctuaries designated and expanded in the last 10 years, including the MBNMS and other California National Marine Sanctuaries. Santa Cruz wants the White House to be aware that they oppose this move and want to make sure our local oceans stay protected from harm that can be caused by off-shore oil drilling.
