Carmel will celebrate 100 years this Saturday

The City of Carmel has come a long way in 100 years, and on Saturday they celebrate.

“Our big parade starts at 10:45 on Ocean Avenue. Right after that we have a sold out lunch on Sunset Center. And follow that by a five o clock street dance on Dolores Street,” said Carmel Mayor Steve Dallas.

“We came up with the theme ‘A Century of Memories,’ and it’s basically taking 100 years and putting it in to about an hour-and-a-half parade.

Carmel resident and music composer Alan Silvestri will also give the crowd a special surprise.

“He’s done Forest Gump, he’s done the Avengers movie, Back to The Future. And what he has done is created a centennial fanfare. He’s also created a centennial march,” said Event Organizer Tom Brocato.

“This is a wonderful celebration of artists and unique people that live in our City, and the unique character that we have,” said Brocato.

New Mayor Steve Dallas will be joined by past city leaders, the most famous of them all — Clint Eastwood.

“We will put him on a stagecoach and he will be wearing some western attire,” said Brocato.

The Mayor says historic preservation has always been and will always be important in Carmel. The fire station behind me is one example of that.

“There’s a lot of historic building on the commercial side as well as residential side. I look forward to the next 100 years being the same as the past. Not changing the character keeping it unique and simple and going forward with a wonderful plan,” said Dallas.
