Election Day 2 hours off without a loss of pay

California law provides employees up to two hours off to vote if they do not have enough time to do so during non-working hours.

The law is in place to make sure all voters get a chance to have their voices heard on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8.

If you are planning on taking your two hours off, you must give your employer two working days notice before the election.

“In California a voter cannot be denied their fundamental right to the ballot box. Working Californians can take time off to vote, without a loss of pay,” said Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

All California employers are required to post a notice in a visible location informing employees of their rights at least 10 days before an election.

Polling places will be open between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.
