Two deadly crashes in Santa Cruz County Wednesday evening

California Highway Patrol said it responded to two serious crashes Wednesday evening, killing two people.

Officers said the first one happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Highway 1 near Upper Swanton Rd. north of Davenport, when a driver drifted in front of a semi truck.

The victim, a 59-year-old man from Santa Cruz, died during the crash and the semi driver had minor injuries. Investigators believe drugs or alcohol are a factor.

The second crash happened at about 8:25 p.m. on Soquel Drive east of Rosedale Ave. in Soquel.

Officers said an 18-year-old driver crashed into a 31-year-old cyclist, killing the man. The investigation is ongoing and officers said its unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

CHP said its looking for more information from witnesses on the crash killing the cyclist.
