Monterey considers bike-sharing program

Would a bicycle sharing program be successful in Monterey? If so, how would it work? The city wants to know what you think of the idea.

On Tuesday, the city announced it had launched a 10-question community survey asking what type of bike sharing program would best serve the city.

Bicycle sharing programs generally charge a daily, monthly or annual fee permitting users to pick up and return bicycles from self-service kiosks throughout the city.

According to the city, bicycle sharing would connect people to workplaces, schools and other cities in conjunction with local public transit.
