Monterey’s Alvarado St. flooded following water main break

UPDATE: 10/24/16 12:50 PM: California American Water crews have not yet determined how much water was lost Saturday when a water main broke, flooding Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey.

According to the company, an 8″ PVC pipe broke, causing major water loss. Crews were able to repair the line and get it back in service at 3:00 a.m. Sunday .

No property damage has been reported so far.

UPDATE: 8:51 P.M. 10/23/16: Alvarado Street has reopened, according to Division Chief Stewart Roth with the Monterey Fire Dept.

ORIGINAL STORY: California American Water is working to fix a water main break in Downtown Monterey that has effected several businesses and has partially closed down Alvarado Street, according to Division Chief Stewart Roth with the Monterey Fire Dept.

The break was first reported on Saturday afternoon between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. according to Roth.

As of 7:30 Saturday Alvarado Street is partially closed from Bonifacio Pl. to East Franklin.

No one was hurt and no word on what caused the break.
