Serial burglary suspect arrested in Santa Cruz County

Electronics, credit cards and a ventriloquist doll. Those were among the items stolen during a string of residential burglaries that happened between September 12 and October 5, 2016 in Santa Cruz County.

On Friday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced it had arrested a Salinas man for the burglaries.

Javier Vasquez, 29, of Salinas faces charges of residential burglary, and PC identity theft.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, various electronic items, credit cards and a ventriloquist doll were taken from homes in Soquel and La Selva Beach. The stolen credit cards were later used at various businesses.

At the time of the burglaries, witnesses reported seeing a 2005 silver Honda Civic in the area. The car was also observed on surveillance video. Investigators identified Vasquez as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested Vasquez on Ohone Parkway in Watsonville. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
