San Lorenzo River cleanup scheduled for Saturday

The San Lorenzo River will get a make-over Saturday in downtown Santa Cruz. Volunteers from two nonprofit organizations will remove trash and plant native wildflowers on the riverbank near Laurel Street Bridge.

Save Our Shores and the Coastal Watershed Council are organizing the cleanup. They will get help from members of the U.C. Santa Cruz kayak club.

The goal is to create a healthy, native habitat for the butterflies, bugs and wildlife that live along the river.

The event will take place Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.. Volunteers are welcome to participate. Check-in will take place at Mimi De Marta Park, 119 Broadway in Santa Cruz.
