Arson suspect arrested in Felton

An arson suspect was arrested in Felton early Tuesday morning, after a nearby business employee noticed a small brush fire.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said the employee quickly reported the fire near 5755 Highway 9, allowing Cal Fire to respond and put the fire out.

Deputies said Jed Morouse, 42, of Felton, was arrested near the fire.

The sheriff’s office said the employee’s quick response to the incident prevented the fire from spreading.

This incident comes as crews are battling two wildfires on the Central Coast.

Cal Fire said the Loma Fire, in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is now 90 percent contained at 4,474 acres. The Soberanes Fire, in Monterey County, is now 132,092 acres and is 95 percent contained.
