Indy Cars not the only competition at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

As drivers and crews prepare to race Indy Cars this weekend, the management team at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is waiting to learn its future.

The future management of the raceway is in limbo as Monterey County officials weigh several proposals from groups interested in running the raceway. SCRAMP, or the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula, currently manages the raceway facilities.

While Monterey County is currently accepting bids for new management, SCRAMP had submitted its proposal on August 25 th .

“To my understanding there are three contenders and decisions will be made here, hopefully, in the next 60 days,” said Gill Campbell, CEO of the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Whether the county decides to stick with SCRAMP or not, Campbell and her crews are ready to go for the next season.

“We have our schedule all put together, ready to go, we’re ready to just push that go button as soon as we have the opportunity,” said Campbell.

An answer as to who will manage the company down the line is still up in the air. According to county officials, they’re trying to get through this first step of looking at proposals.
