UPDATE: 29-year-old man in critical condition after being shot multiple times in south Salinas

UPDATE 9/6/16 2:48 AM: According to the Salinas Police Department, the victim is in very critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Officers confirm the 29-year-old was shot while sitting as a passenger in a vehicle. That vehicle was in a driveway in the 1300 block of Las Cruces Ct.

Investigators say the male suspect approached the victim, fired a gun multiple times and then fled to a waiting vehicle, which sped out of the area. There is no other suspect or vehicle description available.

PREVIOUS STORY: An investigation is underway after a 29-year-old man was shot multiple times in south Salinas on Monday night. He is suffering life-threatening injuries.

“He is still alive, so we are trying to handle the scene and process it the best way we can for the preservation of evidence. And we are contacting witnesses and processing the crime scene right now,” said sgt. John Lynn.

Officials say the man was shot while he was in a car in the driveway of a home on Las Cruces Way.

A family member immediately started to drive him to the hospital and was stopped by police and medics. They then transported the man to the hospital.

There is no suspect information at this time.

This is the third shooting on Monday and the fourth over the Labor Day weekend in the city.
