National Parks celebrate 100th birthday

Thursday, August 25, marks the 100 th birthday of the National Park Service. To celebrate, every national park is offering free admission from August 25-28.

The first national park, Yellowstone, was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1872. Pinnacles National Park, established in 2013, is the newest and the closest one to the Central Coast. The Pinnacles is a popular spot for rock climbing and hiking. It is also home to the endangered California condor.

California is home to eight national parks: Channel Islands, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Lassen, Pinnacles, Redwood, Sequoia and Yosemite.
