Highway 1 to close again Tuesday night

Due to an increase in wind and fire activity in the Big Sur area, Highway 1 will be closed to all traffic for a second consecutive night.

The highway will be closed in both directions between Palo Colorado Road and North Coast Ridge Road from 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has changed the evacuation status of a limited area of Coast Road. Effective Tuesday afternoon, the evacuation order for the portion of Coast Road between Highway 1 at Bixby Bridge and the 2-mile maker of Coast Road was lifted.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for Coast Road south of the 2-mile marker to Highway 1 at Andrew Molera Park. The evacuation orders cover all areas accessed by Coast Road.

All other previous evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect.
