9-year-old Hollister boy drowns at Arroyo Seco Campground

A 9-year-old boy from Hollister drowned Sunday afternoon at the Arroyo Seco Campground Day Use Area in Greenfield, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said he was visiting the campground with his family. They said someone called 911 but a volunteer firefighter and emergency responder tried to save his life using CPR.

The sheriff’s office said it is unclear how long the boy was under water. He was taken to the hospital where he died.
