Soberanes Fire continues to grow, now 32,930 acres

UPDATE 7/29/16 7:00 PM: The Soberanes Fire has grown to 32,930 acres and is still 15 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.

The number of homes destroyed went up to 57 and 11 outbuildings. 2,000 homes remain threatened. Three structures and two outbuildings have been damaged.

Evacuations were lifted late Friday afternoon for Riley Ranch Road and Red Wolf Drive, Corona Road and the Carmel Highlands.

Fire officials have pushed back the expected date for containment of the Soberanes Fire by a full month. According to an update issued Friday morning, Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service now estimate full containment on August 31.

The fire burned actively overnight and has burned 31,386 acres. It is 15 percent contained. Forty-one homes and 10 outbuildings have been destroyed. Another 2,000 structures are threatened.
