Rossi Street shooting victim dies

UPDATE 7/26/16 4:20PM: A man shot on July 23 on Rossi Street has died, according to the Salinas Police Department.

Police have identified the victim as 57-year-old Israel Tate Jr.

Police said just after 8 a.m. Saturday, Tate Jr. was shot after he was chased near 35 East Rossi Street. He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators say it appears there was a disturbance prior to the shooting in the area of Lake and Bridge Streets. Police said it appeared Tate Jr. was fleeing that area and was followed by a four-door sedan.

Police said the homicide is not being investigated as gang-related.

Salinas police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital on Saturday morning, according to Salinas Police.

The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. on East Rossi St. in Salinas. When police arrived they found a man who had been shot several times. According to police, the victim is recovering in the hospital, but is in very serious condition. No arrests have been made.

“It’s still pretty early on in the investigation,” said Commander Vince Maiorana with the Salinas Police Dept. “As we move forward hopefully we have people come forward and talk to us about what happened here, which will help us solve the crime,” added Maiorana.
