Pedestrian hit and killed in Watsonville

WATSONVILLE, Calif. – Watsonville Police are investigating a fatal collision that killed a 54-year old woman.

Police say it appears the woman was attempting to cross Main Street and walked into the path of a 2001 Infinite, driven by a 27-year old man navigating the intersection.

Witnesses say they’d found the woman in the roadway, but had not seen any collision, according to the press release.

Police say during their initial investigation, they were contacted by a man who said he was the driver involved in the collision that was reported at 1:30 a.m. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor, police said.

Main St. between Rodriguez St. and Freedom Blvd. was closed for several hours.

The names of the pedestrian and driver have not yet been released.
