Funeral home offers way to express condolences over Dallas shootings

For funeral home General Manager Ellen Broaddus, the mission is clear when it comes to the five Dallas Officers killed in the line of duty.

“This is a tragedy that affects the entire nation. We thought it would be a good idea if the members of our community reached out to them,” said Broaddus.

Broadus dropped off a register book at each of the local police stations for the officers to sign.

“They were really surprised that anyone was doing anything like this and excited for the opportunity,” said Broaddus.

The public can also express their condolences. Register books have been set up at the Mission Mortuary in Monterey and at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Home.

“They can simply sign their name if they’d like, most people are writing messages. Thanking them for putting their life on the line,” said Broaddus.

One person wrote ‘You are the real heroes in my heart,’ another person wrote ‘My heart breaks for you all.’

“We’re all with them and we know that’s not going to take away their grief but it hopefully can help them heal,” said Broaddus.

Both register books will be available through Monday before being sent off to Dallas.
