Hollister Police launch community survey

Over the next six months, Hollister Police officers will be handing out more than just traffic citations. They’ll also be handing out survey cards.

The Hollister Police Department announced Monday it has partnered with a Nebraska-based company, Concise Research Group (CRG), to conduct a study of police-community interactions through anonymous online surveys. The program is funded by a grant received by CRG.

Under the program, when citizens are contacted by police officers about an investigation or citation, they will be given cards that direct them to the CRG website, where they can take a short anonymous survey.

Hollister Police Chief David Westrick said the program has been in the works for the past four months and everyone contacted by police — witnesses, victims and offenders — will be given a chance to participate in the study. Westrick says he expects to receive “a whole rainbow” of responses, both positive and negative.

The company will analyze survey results and work with Hollister Police to create an officer training program focused on areas that need improvement.

In a press release, Hollister Police said the goal is to improve service and enhance its relationship with the community.

The Hollister Police Department has produced videos in both Spanish and English to explain the survey and the process for taking it. The videos can be found here:
