Man dies in car vs. pedestrian crash
A 63-year-old man has died two weeks after being hit by a car in Salinas. Police say John Phillips died from his injuries May 2 at Natividad Medical Center. He is the city’s third pedestrian killed this year in a traffic collision.
According to police, Phillips was walking in the southbound lanes of Natividad Street April 21st, when he was hit by an oncoming car near the intersection of Natividad and Sorentini Street.
Police say the driver remained on the scene. Officers add that the driver had a valid California driver’s license, is insured and was not intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Police say Phillips suffered from mental health issues and a history of walking on roads. According to officers, Phillips was a victim of a felony hit and run back in December 2012.
