Investigation: Loch Lomond Reservoir dirt bike vandalism

Investigators are getting some help from the public as they try to identify three people who trespassed and vandalized the Loch Lomond Reservoir in Felton on April 1.

Gar Eidam, chief ranger at the reservoir, said his office has received “a couple of tips,” which Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s investigators are pursuing.

Surveillance video shows three suspects riding a pair of dirt bikes around the reservoir. Eidam said the bikers smashed or cut through ten gates during a 13-mile ride. Eidam described the bikes as a green Kawasaki and a red Honda off-road bikes. Neither bike had a license plate. The biker’s helmets have distinctive designs, which investigators hope will help them identify the suspects.

Eidam said the dirt bikes disturbed soil, caused erosion and posed a fire danger, but the city’s water supply was not contaminated. Santa Cruz Water Company crews are working to repair areas damaged by the bikes.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Santa Cruz Water Department or Sheriff’s Office.
