Sheriff’s Office: Burglar posed as PG&E workers

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about burglars posing as PG&E workers after investigating a burglary alarm and attempted burglary on Sunday in Salinas.

The Sheriff’s Office said a man dressed in a neon vest and white hard hat knocked on a door and told the homeowner he worked for PG&E. Investigators said the man left after talking with the homeowner.

The Sheriff’s Office said that same man was later spotted jumping a fence into the backyard of another home where broken glass was found. The Sheriff’s Office believes this man also kicked in the door to another home and set of an alarm before driving off in a white Cadillac with black paper plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call authorities. The Sheriff’s Office also reminds people that legitimate PG&E workers will have a valid ID.
