UPDATE: Salinas police identify Wednesday’s homicide victim

UPDATE 11:18 PM: Salinas police have identified Wednesday’s homicide victim as 17-year-oldFelipe Rocha Sandoval.

He was shot several times on the 900 block of Acosta Plaza just before 11:30 a.m.

Sandoval’s death marks the city’s tenth homicide of the year.

The shooting is being investigated as gang-related.

Salinas recorded its tenth homicide of 2016 on Wednesday morning.

Police say a male teenage victim died on-scene after being shot multiple times outside an apartment complex at 912 Acosta Plaza in Salinas. The shooting was first reported just after 11:00 am.

Police say the shooting is likely gang-related but the investigation is ongoing. Investigators also say they are trying to determine if today’s homicide is related to Monday night’s fatal shooting of a 16-year-old on Garner Avenue in Salinas.
