Monterey police seeing a trend in car burglaries, thefts

The Monterey Police Department said it’s seeing an increase in car thefts and burglaries in the city.

On Sunday, police said officers investigated 11 thefts and burglaries from vehicles in the Alameda, San Bernabe and Monterey Circle neighborhoods. Police said the trend continued Monday in the Via Del Pinar neighborhood.

The police department is offering the following crime prevention tips:

– Park vehicles in well-lit areas and make sure doors are locked.
– Don’t leave valuables inside your vehicle.
– Be aware and report suspicious persons and vehicles in the area.

Police advise if you witness suspicious activity to call 911.
