Central Coast cities prepare ahead of weekend storm

With a storm headed towards the Central Coast, crews in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties are spending the day getting ready. Lots of crews are trying to get in front of the storm, dealing with power lines trees that might topple and in some places, areas at-risk of flooding.

On Friday, Santa Cruz Public Works crews let out some storm water from Neary Lagoon on the west side at Cowell’s Beach. The drain system to the ocean had been covered up with five feet of sand, washed up by recent tides.

The sand-clogged drain was cleared out this morning, to prevent flooding of the apartments near the lagoon.

KION’s Brandon Castillo will have more on storm preps around the Central Coast at 5 and 6.
