Literacy rates highlighted on Read Across America Day

Wednesday is National Read Across American Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. The goal is to remind kids of the importance of reading.

In many communities across the U.S., teachers, city leaders and more are reading Dr. Seuss books to students.

At Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary School in Salinas, both Mayor Joe Gunter and Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin read to students.

KION’s Paul Dudley was there for the celebration of reading. Tonight, he’ll look into literacy rates in Salinas, an area where many students primarily speak Spanish.
