Salinas child murder suspect moved from juvenile hall to main jail

Salinas child murder suspect Gonzalo Curiel, who just turned 18, was moved from the Monterey County Juvenile Hall to the Monterey County Jail on Monday.

Curiel turned 18 last Tuesday. He and 40-year-old Tami Huntsman are awaiting trial, accused of murdering3-year-old Delylah and 6-year-old Shaun Tara. They are also accused of abusing the children’s 9-year-old sister.

Up until this point, Curiel had been held at juvenile hall because he was 17. While the defense voiced their concern about his safety at the main jail, the DA’s office said the juvenile hall isn’t equipped to handle defendants facing such serious charges. The office also said he was a risk to other juveniles and also a risk for escape.

Curiel and Huntsman will be back in court on March 4.
