Monterey house fire displaces two Thursday morning

Fire crews battled a house fire in Monterey Thursday morning near Wayne and Clay Streets just after 6 a.m.

Crews found very heavy smoke and flames showing. Monterey Fire said two people came out of house on their own and are now displaced but weren’t hurt.

“It was a challenging fire because there was a lot of items stored in the house so it was challenging to get in,” Monterey Fire Chief Gaudenz Panholzer said.

Crews don’t know what caused the fire but the homeowner believes it was a swamp cooler that sparked the fire.
